Foreign media sources are reporting that voters in Antigua are being offered a payment, in exchange for the temporary surrender of their voter identification card. Without that document proving identity, Antiguans are unable to cast their vote in the upcoming national elections. In essence, it is a bribe offered to voters. These allegations are said to have been made publically by the Opposition, and they have a factual basis; it is alleged at the Antigua Barbuda Labor Party, which is led by the Prime Minister, Gaston Browne, is offering the money to voters.

Taking any form of payment, or benefit, to refrain from voting, is a violation of local law in Antigua; bribery charges can also be brought against the individual or individuals who offered the payment to the voters.
