WANTED SA has just learned this morning that the Government of Nigeria has reported that it seized and confiscated a shipment of thirteen (13) containers from an Iran vessel that arrived in Lagos, bound for the Palestinian Territory of Gaza containing rocket launchers, grenades and explosives.
These weapons are the latest shipment reputedly destined for Gaza. In March of last year, a weapons caravan said to be a delivery to Gaza was attacked and stopped by a military unit in Sudan.
Iran the “War Monger” and ‘Evil Empire’ has attempted to ship weapons to Venezuela and to the FARC, which could cause a potential danger to Panama, Colombia and surrounding countries.
Iran signed a Treaty with Hugo Chavez to fund and develop nuclear arms for Venezuela causing an alert to Central and South America.
These appear to be new routes for weapons intended for Gaza and assuming that others were probably not interdicted en route; the risk of future armed conflict may rise and with it country risk.
Compliance Officers and Risk Managers who are responsible for the calculation of country risk should evaluate this new information in the context of your current assessment of Gaza, and make a decision based upon all the facts known to you.
