Continue to monitor Turkey for Iran Sanctions Evasion Activity
The Treasury Department has advised that it will be sending its primary Iran sanctions troubleshooter - Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence Mr. Stuart Levey on a trip to Turkey and Azerbaijan to discuss UN sanctions on Iran with "Senior Government Officials and private sector leaders."
This indicates continued concern that Iran may be using these countries' Financial Sectors to evade UN, US, EU and other international sanctions issued against Iran.
Are you monitoring cross-border transactions involving financial institutions and companies located in the Republic of Turkey?
WANTED SA has previously directed your attention to Turkey with reference to Iran sanctions** and has suggested that caution and risk be elevated*** for that nation. Please continue to closely examine international financial transactions from or to Turkey, especially when the items involved could conceivably be dual-purpose goods potentially useful for Iran's WMD or ballistic missile programmers.
