Honduras, Costa Rica and Nicaragua

FROM A
DIFFERENT POINT OF VIEW

The United States has added the Central American republics of Honduras, Costa Rica and Nicaragua to its list of major drug-trafficking countries, citing substantial increases in seizures of contraband, the presence of organized narco-trafficking groups, and insufficient counter-narcotics resources amongst the reasons for this designation.

Panama on the other hand has raised their alertness to combat narco-trafficking groups and has added major implementation by land, sea and air to combat narco crime. Panama jointly supported by the United States has been seizing tons of drugs each year and continues to declare that Panama is not a jurisdiction for drugs.

Compliance officers whose clients are engaged in substantial international trade with these countries, or have financial or ownership interests there are advised to review the facts specific to their risk situation, and consider raising country risk for Honduras, Costa Rica and Nicaragua.

Always consult WANTED SA* when assessing country risk.
