WANTED SA has just learned this morning that  a 46-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with the alleged theft more than $1 million from a Winnipeg, Manitoba Health Clinic’s ATM. This is a new manner of ATM fraud that has a twist to the system.

Winnipeg, Manitoba is a medium sized city in the center of Canada that has an unusually rate of crime.

The woman, a former financial clerk at the Misericordia Health Centre, allegedly took the money during a 10-year span between January 2000 and January 2010 Law Enforcement in Winnipeg have stated.

A thorough investigation was started in April 2010 by Law Enforcement members of the Winnipeg Police Service's commercial crime unit.

The woman was arrested on Wednesday November 11, 2010 and police searched her residence, seizing cash "and various proceeds of crime," according to a police service news release.

The woman, whose name has not released, was released from custody on a promise to appear in court at a future date when she will be formally charged with fraud, theft and possession of the proceeds of crime, police said.

Officials at the Health Clinic advised Television CBC News in July that the ATM was originally run by Misericordia Health Centre, which required it to be filled by a staff member.

It is now operated by a third-party firm.
